Character Design

For this project, we had to create a final poster featuring a main character and their companion animal to tell a story. The challenge was to complete it entirely by hand. As a fan of 2D animation (like Walt Disney’s classics), I wanted to keep that retro graphic style.
Below you’ll find the research sheets for the main character. I wanted to keep a cartoon style (inspired by Adventure Time) while incorporating a musician element. I aimed to create a character that blends the two well.
For the companion animal research sheets, I felt that an otter fit well with the comforting atmosphere I wanted to give the final piece.

Once the characters were finished, I had to place them in a setting. I drew inspiration from the world of The Wizard of Oz, with tulip fields and the wizard’s castle. I also wanted to place my characters around a campfire, playing music.

Final Piece

Once upon a time, in the distant lands of Runeterra, there was a bard named Elyone, known for her enchanting melodies and her infectious good humor. Always accompanied by her faithful otter, Lira, she traveled through the kingdoms, bringing joyful songs and laughter wherever misfortune reigned. But one day, a terrible plague struck the kingdom of Astraa. The flowers withered, laughter fell silent, and the inhabitants, gripped by deep melancholy, lost all desire to celebrate life. The air felt heavy, as if even the wind had stopped smiling. Elyone and Lira, seeing the people's suffering, decided to pick up their guitar and drum and set out on a journey to bring back what Astraa was missing: joy. Their mission? To restore harmony and happiness through music, humor, and moments of wonder.
