Creating a Gameboy game

Aku is a top-down pixel art adventure built with GB Studio, designed and coded to run natively on the original Game Boy hardware. Drawing from classic 8-bit RPGs, the game features hand-crafted interiors, an overworld to explore, and dialogue-driven encounters that guide the player through a small but atmospheric world. Every sprite, tile, and UI element was created within the strict 4-color palette and pixel constraints of the platform – a fun exercise in designing clear, readable interfaces within heavy technical limitations.

The game is playable for free on itch.io.
